Lotus Emira with AMG Power! | As good as the Supercharged V6?
Просмотров 11 тыс.2 месяца назад
The new Lotus Emira now has AMG power from the lunatic M139 4-cylinder engine from the Mercedes-AMG A45. The 2.0 litre turbocharged engine is twined with AMG's eight-speed DCT gearbox with paddle change. I was surprised how great the 4-cylinder sounded and the responsiveness of the paddle gearshift. This is in no way the lesser experience compared to the 3.5 Litre supercharged V6, its just a di...

Just want to add that there are also fakes which are harder to spot. Quite a few counterfeits were made which are almost identical, but are missing the logo and serial numbers along the bottom. Everything else about it will look genuine, the shape of the saddle, the size of the wheels, the folding pedals. But I came across the "abikecentral" forum and there's a thread from 2007 where people discuss the fakes and what to look for. My parents originally bought one sometime around 2007-2009 from eBay, it was only used a couple of times and has been folded in the bag ever since. I wanted to put it up for sale today, but after looking into it a bit, it seems to be one of the counterfeits as it doesn't have any of the logos on it, shame. Not really sure what to do with it now because I don't trust riding it.
One of the most honest reviews I've ever seen about 992. I'm getting the 4s in crayon colour with completely my own specs.
Many thanks 🙏 Glad you liked it. Crayon is awesome. Enjoy! 👍
Awsome restoration, It looks Brand new and a Nice way to preserve history.
Many thanks 🙏
Many thanks 🙏
Shame they haven't made a hybrid in the tycan yet
Side profile. Rear profile. Overall size........are we talking about the same car ? It's MASSIVE ! Nice to see that they have cracked materials quality. Reliability we will discover in time.
OK, I hear you. But, I think the main concern with driving on roads in the UK is width. And I didn’t feel like the Eletre felt wide at all. The length (longer than a Range Rover) is long yes, but the camera’s help with that and it makes for a large boot and brilliant rear leg room.
Built in China. Heavier battery than the original Elise. Crap range of 200 miles, real world. Shove it Lotus. Good review though. Thanks. Defo needs HUD given the letterbox of a display above the wheel. Might buy it in 4 years for 25k, if I had to. Enjoy the cliff edge depreciation anyone?
Nonsense, I'm getting nearly 300 miles in an S atm....the letterbox display is perfect...I don't even have HUD on.
There is nothing Lotus in this car. It's a Chinese car, it looks like a Chinese car, it's made with Chinese technology and It's made in China, isn't it?
I don’t agree that there is nothing Lotus in this car. There is Lotus DNA in the chassis and set up that has been worked on by guys that have been at Hethel since the F1 days. And the design inside and out is led by Lotus. Yes it’s made in China, but Porsches have been built in Finland, BMW’s in America. And are all Lotus’s with French, American or Japanese engines not Lotus’s?
Lovely motor
was the rusty Capri restored ?
Very strange
For the sort of money you're paying it's not that quick, still missing heads up display.... Or a proper driver's display...
It did have a head up display. Seemed pretty quick to me 👍
It’s quick, especially the R version that can do the 0-100km/h in only 2,95sec. The basic version and the S versions does the same in 4,5 sec, which is very quick too, but not impressive. What is impressive is especially the sporty behavior of the car. I have one and believe me it’s a lot of fun.
@@karlhurn I've heard head up display can make you feel a bit sick. What was your experience?
@@kasparov2312 Not sure as I didn’t have it on during the review. I’ve not heard that though, that’s a new one.
@@karlhurn am going to test drive one tomorrow so I'll see myself. Some great lease deals on this car at the moment
It is an ugly car, sorry.
I think the rear is pretty cool with the air ducts and the curved light bar. I like the rear wheel arch haunches and the ‘estate car’ side profile. Is it the front you don’t like?
I guess that photos and videos don’t do this car a favor. the car is much more beautiful in person
Well.. it's A chinese car ...
@@Eradicatorsgaming is that bad? As far as I know Chinese electric cars are the best is the world.
And yet I'm stopped daily and get asked if people can take photos at least weekly....im guessing it's not ugly to everyone
I bought an original UK Pepsi back in 89 put 23,000 on that with no problems .. if only I’d had the sense to keep it. 3 months after I sold it the lad wrote it off 🤦♂️
My mini was a trash car by my best friend and his co bartender friend they use the car to go around fortheir gigs, this car was just sitting out of the driveway when I discovered it , it’s so cute I told them and they just passed it on to me and I sometimes use it for travel for as long as more than 100 miles still w 200k miles still running good , plus the manual version of this is just simply amazing you can feel the car w you while driving it, it’s hard to describe but it’s the feeling w the car, w just basic maintenance it’s a good fun car makes me laugh by myself while driving the car sometimes
My CARREA T is being delivered in July and as I am in the city I did get the PDK.
I’m sure it’s a good move 👍. Congratulations 👌
i have the exact same options on the buttons. No gps . Great car to take wifey to go shopping.
Looks fantastisc, great voiceovers.
Many thanks 🙏 Glad you liked it 👍
My Carrera T has PDK, if you’re driving a lot around town I would definitely choose it over the manual . It’s quicker too off the line .
Yes, for everyday a PDK is much nicer. Always best to buy the car you need than the one other people think you should have. 👍👌
Quicker off the and less engaging due to a redundant left leg, best served with 3 pedals.
If you got money to blow. More power to you.
super front heavy
64/36 is not that bad.
Por favor tem como me passar o valor gratidão
There’s something just so likeable about the R4 !
Put 100,000 miles on mine. Change the brake fluid! When driven hard it takes a pounding, also it absorbs water just sitting.
Yes the brakes seem the weakest part of the design. Seems like a lot of people put AP Racing ones on.
motoring journalists all copyu each other.
I’m not a motoring journalist. But it’s nice that you would think that 👍
I would rather the 2 wheel drive .. I believe it’s 70 KG lighter than , the 4S ..
Have one in my area for 29k with 63k miles clean as a whistle. Want it and will get it. My dream car.
Great review, and very helpful while I wait for mine to arrive! The thing I love most about the T is the way the reduced sound insulation makes the engine sound (not exhaust sound) much more apparent. It's much closer to the oldschool Porsche experience than anything else in the 992 line short of the GT and specialty 911s.
So glad you liked the review and congratulations on your Carrera T! What colour did you go for?
@@karlhurn thanks! Unfortunately there weren't too many colors still available when I ordered so I went with the classic GT Silver with lizard green interior accents plus aero kit to spice it up even more visually. Otherwise I would have gone for python green paint for sure, but with no aero as I think the green is attention grabbing enough on its own 😁
@@loxxriderSounds awesome 🙌. Python green is cool but GT Silver is a classic Porsche colour, so a great choice 👍
All 992 have PASM standard. The "Sports" suspension is simply some different springs.
A manual is a must on all sportcars. Its more engaging that's why sportcars are intended for and why we drive manual. Nowadays everything are pdk and automatic for lazy people.
Stupid comment.
As I lost my leg in a 1999 motorcycle accident the PDK is a godsend, I am not lazy but in your ideal world it would not be available..thanks
My 2024 T delivered in January of this year. It's a wonderful daily, and super fun when you ask it to perform. Porsche did a nice job packaging the options for this car. All of the good stuff(PASM, Sport Chrono, Sport Exhaust, Active motor mounts(GT3), Shorter shifter(GTS), etc. is included, without any BS options that a driver focus spec shouldn't have. You can option the crap out of a T, but that's foolish to do. It's not meant to be S.
A very good choice indeed. The manual box is a must on this car. I drive a 992 4GTS and I assure you it is a very easy and compliant car to drive, thanks to the suppleness of the flat-6 and, as you pointed out, to its torque. The extra power over the T is not indispensable but nevertheless very welcome (and enjoyable) when you live in a mountainous region as I do. Your detailed presentation of this exquisite bargain 911 is top notch. Well done and cheers 😎
Many thanks 🙏. Glad you enjoyed it 👍

Nice "Cheesey Cliche" free summary - good job

Kinda reminds me of the 2011-14 Acura ZDX. In a weird way...
I had one in 80s. worse car I ever had.Sold it after 2 years, never bought renault again
THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEO!
I had one during varsity in the mid eighties at Sporthochschule Cologne . I loved it 🤠 It was build in 68 , had had quite a few owners , some of the wiring was isolated in clingfilm, I used to park with the nose downhill if possible, the starter motor / Lichtmaschine and I were not friends . This thing could be push started like a motorbike ❤ Sigh .
Solid review mate - actually best description of how T is unique from base and S model. I own a macan T. Love feel and handling as a dad car. I do wish the T option added a few more horsepower or made the sports exhaust option standard. I do appreciate the better fuel economy vs the 6 cylinder. Only true advantage of V6 is the more powerful sound, that’s why think T should have adfsd sports exhaust standard
Glad you liked the review. Yes I agree, the sports exhaust should be standard 👍
What an amazing color. It's gorgeous.
I purchased a 2018 Cayman GTS 3 months ago with 18,000 kms on the clock and yes it’s the unloved 4 cylinder 2.5L with a turbo and I absolutely love this car! Same Porsche quality as the 911 but better handling, carmine red stitching throughout, full carbon interior, Bose sound and PDK. It’s an absolute rocket and looks fantastic in Agate grey with red callipers Michelin PS2 red seat belts and as I said red stitching everywhere. Great video on the 4L but I will stick with the 2.5L thanks.
Your GTS sounds awesome. That’s the strength of the Porsche range, that there is choice. To find the perfect car that’s right for you. And it sounds like you’ve made a good one 👍
I used to chase this car after collage classes were over. My international finance professor had one, same color---dam, a sexy bitch
I would love to drive one today in our choked full of cars commute to and from home to work! Alas, it’s only 11 kilometers each way! But at 28 C temperature I imagine the old R4 could feel stuffy!
Such a wonderful experience, but when I was there the water was so cold.
LOL its not as good as a base Cayman.
Love my R50 1.6, 2006 goes round corners with run flats on like they dont excist, very rarely do you have to break as the suspension is designed to equalise the pressure in the tyres when cornering itsjust so much fun to drive ,they have there niggles and maintenance costs but worth it,go go go go-Kart lol
who's here because of gemini developer competition
I wish it would drive more traffic here! 👍 I loved making this video.
Nice work, solid review. Currently number 2 on the list here in Pa. Going with Carmine Red and a manual.
Good choice 👍. Glad you liked the review.
With every manufacturer releasing 2 liter turbo 4 bangers, it doesnt fit porsche.
The first Porsches were 4 bangers. And Ferdinand Porsches even consulted on very early electric vehicles in the 19th Century.
@@karlhurn I dont agree that the rationale or sentiment from porsche or its enthusiasts about a new 4 banger is a romantic tie back to the first Porsche vehicles. Probably why they went back to the 4.0 flat six for the 718. The 2.0 was said to have been designed with china in mind as the main consumer and the 2.0 would avoid a displacement tax.
Thanks for a very relevant thoughts on the GTS. To me, this particular 992 911 GTS really does not fully provide for the two primary segments of the Porsche buyers: one a casual sports car drivers and the other a hardcore high-rev, stick shifting heal-toe drivers. The “S” version of the Carreras are extremely capable cars and offers more performance than 99% of the buyers’ can ever fully deploy. It does that while keeping a daily drivable ride and characteristics. GTS on the other hand does not inherit the NA engine from the GT3 so it just cannot offer what a GT3 car can offer in terms of sensory satisfaction. While its cornering capabilities are quite more pronounced in GTS over a Carrera model, it does at a damning cost of ride quality and very annoying road noise which renders it quite unpleasant to drive around most of the time. So, it definitely isn’t going to be a GT3 and it provides you the level of performance that you really won’t need, all at the cost of usable comfort. So, anyone looking to get in to their first 911, my recommendation is a Carrera S or 4S. They are amazing cars to own, if it is your one Porsche. I like my 718 Spyder over anything else for a Sunday drive through the canyons and the Turbo S for putzing around town, just for its muscle. I am no longer running around the tracks so I have no need for a GT3. But if I had to pick one sports car to reward myself, it would be the 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet. It is a great device for anyone who loves spirited driving, ready to go any time, any place.
N nowhere is the price mentioned. Wonder why.
If you have to ask, you can’t afford it 😂
@@karlhurn n u need new writers. That line's old.
